Rule of Thirds 2

In this series on the rule of thirds I decided to use more of the rule of thirds version that featured an object in the corner and still complied  to the rule of thirds. I tried to find interesting objects with plain but complicated backgrounds that highlighted the objects that are complying with the rule of thirds. I tried to take photos of a wide variety of things to add to the overall series.

Rule of Thirds

For this series I used the rule of thirds to create panels in my photographs that divide the world into thirds and have a different type of spacial awareness when looking for photos to take. In this series of the rule of thirds I have mentally divided photos into three panels of different light values. In some of these cases I found instances where the panels were physically divided as well as having different characteristics to them. I have found this to be a challenging project so far, especially when applying the rule of thirds to photos without people in them.

"Blast From The Past" High School

In High School so far I have a lot of memories of my martial arts dojo, which has had a major impact on my life so far. My computer has also been a big influence, I use it for school work as well as entertainment. South Park and Family Guy are shows I watch a lot and I have a lot of memories of them. Also, Drew has also had a major impact because I transferred to Drew sophomore year. All of these photos relate very well to my memories of High School so far.

"blast from the past" middle school

These pictures represent memories from when I was in middle school. I traveled to Mexico and Joshua Tree and Portugal, and these are all represented by my pictures. Traveling really made a big impression on me and made for really fun summers. I also have many memories of movies that came out when I was in middle school, like 300 and Casino Royal. Video games were also what I spent a lot of time on, like Halo. All in all these images invoke a lot memories for me.

"Blast From The Past" late childhood

For this series I found images from my late childhood and early teens that inspired me to remember the past and childhood memories. Movies like The Lord of The Rings and Star Wars were my favorite movies as an almost teenager and the years even before that. Also games like Agent under Fire and Age of Empires, and TV shows like The Simpsons were things I really enjoyed.

"Blast From The Past"

I went to Lego land when I was six and it was awesome at the time.

I watched the Aristocats a lot when I was really young.

I went to Disney Land when I was 5 or 6 and it was magical-ish.

Spiderman was my favorite superhero when I was a kid and I had lots of action figures.

Wily Coyote was a favorite character of mine in cartoons.

Jungle book was one of my favorite movies in my younger childhood.

Bugs bunny was my all time favorite cartoon as a child.

Close up Focus series

For this series we used focus and macro mode on the camera to focus on one object or person then shift perspective and make the background blurry. I experimented with many different ways of doing this, but simple and very focused, with a dash of humor thrown in with the mustache, ended up being the best photo. This was a really fun series to do.

"Team"

Carlos is a very observant and creative photographer. Carlos always seems to find interesting moments and people to photograph. In Carlos' photographs there is always a sense of looking at a moment where there just happened to be a camera to photograph it, but it was the moment and not the idea to photograph it that came first. I think Carlos is very original with his photography, especially where colors are concerned.

Jessica is very good at blending natural elements into her photos and using nature to convey a sense of the world and a broad scale. Jessica especially used images of nature well in her op art project using the hypnotism effect. Jessica's photos using the hypnotism effect were almost mystical in nature and were thought provoking to look at. The ability to provoke thought is common to her photographic style.

Stephanie  is an extremely creative photographer who always has new ideas that are both surprising and interesting. There is not any common theme to Stephanie's work because she is always doing something different. Stephanie's work with grids of four pictures was very interesting and she is very good at making photos flow almost perfectly. I think Stephanie has continued to do more and more interesting things in her photography.

Sacha is a very detail oriented photographer, her photos capture detail but also reveal the character of things. Sacha takes interesting photos whose detail reveals interesting elements that would not have been noticed from a photo that is zoomed out. Sacha also is very creative and makes collections of photos with  very interesting themes. Sacha's photos that are altered with the hypnotize effect create an interesting effect of controlled chaos and vibrant energy that is found in many of her photos.

Keely takes many photos that are so close up it is sometimes difficult to tell what something is, this is useful in that it allows the imagination to go to work. Many of Keely's close up photos add an element of the abstract into what is very real. Extreme close ups also make you think about what the context of the photo is, also Keely is very good at choosing the right things to use in close ups. Keely is a very creative photographer and uses different styles of photography well.

Minsoo is a very creative photographer and takes amazing photos of food as well as having amazing photos using the hypnotic effect. Minsoo's photos of food convey a lot about the food and leave you very hungry after looking at them. Minsoo's hypnotic effect photos are very interesting and he uses the effect to convey everything light shining through something to movement. Minsoo's photos are very detailed and well done and reveal quite a bit of skill with a camera.

Carly is a very innovative and creative photographer. Carly is especially good at making grids that flow very well and create a fascinating overall visual picture. Carly, by using several similar photos in a grid that fit together, makes a better overall grid photo because the differences in the photos are explored. Carly also put together grid photos of many different plants to create an interesting jungle like montage. Overall Carly always has creative and unique photos that are interesting to look at.

Madeleine is good at taking very candid looking photos of people that reveal quite a bit about their character. Madeleine also takes a different approach to photography than many others in the class. Madeleine tells even more of a story with her work and fits her photographs into comics that really explore the message aspect of photography in a creative way.

Welcome to the team!

Final Series Draft

In this series I moved between two different styles of altering the humanity of people in photos by making them look realistic yet somewhat like science fiction at the same time. I tried to explore how people are perceived in photos by editing the picture and adding a strange element to it. Some of these photos look robotic or demonic or look like mannequins but the common theme is taking a human element out and observing what is perceived as a result. I also tried to use the background in photos to complicate them and make them more interesting to look at.
